Welcome Aboard to the Armored Commander, Commander

War, pacifists hate it, sadists love it, games designer wanna ***** with it. Countless games that reaped tons of cash for those folks. Supreme Commander, a 2007 game, creation of THQ and gas Powered Games.

Once again, its humans, fighting each other over their respected ways and beliefs, for a thousand years. It is 3844, and the Infinite War is raging, with the United Earth Federation, Cybran Nation and Aeon Illuminate pitting their technologies of future warfare against each other. You will be the commander that will lead your chosen faction to victory, and end the Inifinite War once and for all.

Supreme Commander is new in almost every way(take out the buildings construction and units training of course). Ok, so its a new game for you, and what's better for newbies to do ? >>>Tutorial. At first, you will think that the tutorial will be casual "babe/dude introduces and orders you to do ABC". But, Supreme Commander's tutorial is a sandbox mode, whereby you gain control of all 3 ACUs. Its up to you to explore, and learn on your own.

At least you have some videos to assist you

After some learning process, most of you would dive into the campaign, while some will opt for the skirmishes. Every game you start, you will see these two bars

Mass and Energy
However, the fun lies here :
Unlike most previous RTS games, where you must prespend a stated amount of resources on a unit or building, failing to do so will prevent you from training or building it, Supreme Commander revolutionises it. There will be a specific time to construct your unit, lets say a Tech 1 Air factory, 40 seconds, requiring 2400 energy and 240 mass. So during the process, 60 energy and 6 mass will be used up per second.

if the rate of consumption is greater than the rate of production of resources, your building efficiency will decrease
which means that, your build speed will decrease, with respect to the number shown in the 2 red boxes.
See those 2 cuties beside your ACU? They are the engineers, and their main function is assist. Builders are able to assist each other to increase the speed of construction, and engineers are able to assist either the ACU and each other or the factory when building commences.
Now, i will try to rebuild the Tech 1 Air factory with 2 ACUs

Notice that it is supposed to take only 60 energy and 6 mass ? With 2 ACUs, the speed is doubled, that means, the rate of resources consumption per second, is DOUBLED. It won't be so nice when your resources is almost dry, is it ? So, more haste less speed, dont try to many-to-one build unless you are confident your resources stockpile will last the process.

Now down to the units. Every RTS game must have their own unique units for each seperate faction. Indeed, Supreme Commander provides players with a plethora of units and buildings,. But the only difference between those units are their skin and name, the type though, is virtually the same, except for the Experimentals of course.

Everything(except for Mother Nature duh !) in this game revolves around 3 level of technology : Tech 1, Tech 2 and Tech 3. Only the ACU and Factories can be upgraded, and will be able to build bigger and better buildings and units after each successful upgrade.
Players begin by building small, weak but versatile and cheap Tech 1 units. Since they are so inexpensive and requires a ridiculously short period of time to build, Tech 1 units are mostly used as fodders to swarm the enemy base. They are so weak that ACUs won't even take a crap to destroy them.

Any objections, punk ?

As the game proceeds , sturdier and stronger Tech 2s and Tech 3s emerge, threatening to caught you when you least expected and tear your ranks into bits. But the true enjoymnt of this game is the Tech 4 experimentals, with huge lasers and really really high hit points squaring off against each other in the middle of the battlefield.

Skirmishes will be very enjoyable above the Normal AI difficulty level. The AI is categoriseed into 3 types, which is Balanced, Tech, and Horde AI. Tech AIs will prefer to crush you with Tech 3 and Experimentals, while Horde is more the type of a streamroller and Balanced mixes both. The only drawback for this game is, you must be a really hard-core RTS gamer, for a campaign or even a skirmish will last for about 2 to 5 hours depending on your play style.

With a maximum population of 1000, just streamroll your enemies until their butts glow red hot, commander !
